Established in 1998, we at Arthur Russell Strings delight in offering intermediate and advanced level music students the opportunity to play music together and make friends in beautiful Southwest Harbor, Maine. Our dedicated faculty offer coaching workshops for small ensembles, giving students individual and group instruction in a supportive atmosphere. This summer ARS will be held for five days, starting July 7th, with a student concert mid-week at Saint John Church and a concert by students and mentors at the end of the session. Students from ages 11-18 will be grouped with their peers for beautiful music and fun.
Students are selected for the program on the basis of demonstrated playing ability coupled with their enthusiasm, interest, and musical experience. After serving more than 160 students from the Maine communities of Mount Desert Island, Hancock County, and beyond, ARS is currently working to increase interest in and awareness of ensemble opportunities for young people in Maine. The July 2014 festival promises to be our most exciting year yet!
For several seasons, the Pierre Monteux Memorial Foundation, Inc, sponsor of the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestra Musicians, served as our fiscal sponsor. The Arthur Russell Strings program fully embraces Pierre Monteux's dream to create fine musicians. We are deeply grateful to the staff and Board of Directors of the Monteux organization for their support and assistance to us. Please visit their website for information about their programs and upcoming concerts and events:www.monteuxschool.org
Arthur Russell Strings is now a program of the Ellsworth Community Music Institute, a non-profit community music school located in Ellsworth, Maine.
